How to configure an account on Mac Mail (version 9.1)

Email
Configure Mac Mail to receive Email from one or more mailboxes.
 
  • Open Mac Mail by clicking the Mail icon on your Dock or by clicking on it inside your Applications folder.
  • Once Mac Mail is loaded you will want to go to Mail at the top left corner of your screen.
  • Then you will want to click Add Account... 
 

  • Check the Other Mail Account... option and then click Continue.
 

 

  • Fill-in your name, email address, and password into the appropriate fields.
  • Click the Sign in button.
  • Ignore any error messages for now.
 
IMAP Account Configuration (Preferred)
  • Select IMAP for your account type.
  • Type imap.siteserver.com into the Incoming Mail Server field.
  • Type smtp.siteserver.com into the Outgoing Mail Server field.
  • Click the Sign in button.
 
 
POP Account Configuration
  • Select POP for your account type.
  • Type pop3.siteserver.com into the Incoming Mail Server field.
  • Type smtp.siteserver.com into the Outgoing Mail Server field.
  • Click the Sign in button.
 
 
Additional Configuration for IMAP and POP
  • Select Mail at the top left corner of your screen and select Preferences.
 
 
  • Make sure the correct account is selected on the left side of the window.
  • Click the drop-down menu that is beside Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP):.
 
  • Select Edit SMTP Server List... from the drop-down menu.
 
 
  • Click the Advanced tab near the middle of the window.
  • Type 587 into the Port: field.
  • Uncheck the Use SSL box.
  • Click the Authentication drop-down and select Password.
  • Enter your email address and password.
  • Click the OK button.
 
 
  • Click the Advanced tab.
  • Uncheck the Use SSL check box.
  • Enter 110 into the Port: field.
 
 
  • Close the Accounts window to return to the Mail inbox.
